For many families, including mine, finding German-language books that also reflect the diversity of real life or perhaps their own biracial/bicultural family is important. While it can be hard to find German-language books with strong diversity representation, these websites and publishers can help:

  1. Tebalou is an shop that specializes in curating books and toys that provide diversity representation. It is a great place to discover new books, but unfortunately they only ship within Europe at this time.
  2. Kinderbooks List of Asian-German Literature
  3. @Afrokids_Germany Instagram Account
  4. HaWandel Verlag: a small publisher that created the Nelly series and a few other books. Sadly the catalog is still quite small (website).
  5. Horami Verlag: a small publisher of Asian-German kids’ books. They publish both German-language books and dual language German-Vietnamese books (website).
  6. Open Hearts Big Dreams is a Seattle-based publisher of Ethiopian literature in translation, which also translates literature into German (German/English books).
